Welcome to the Music page. We work together to ensure that the children at Nevill Road Junior School can access a broad, balanced and creative curriculum in every subject area.
Each year, members of the school choir perform at Stockport Town Hall along side other Stockport Schools. We also host the Bramhall Cluster Music Festival, which is part of our transition programme as Year 2 and Year 3 both take part in the event.
Our Performance Club is led by Hannah Goodwin the director of YSBD theatre Academy. This is available for all children from Y4 - 6 to take part in and is run as an after school activity. Performances have included 'Beauty and the Beast Jnr' as well as 'The Lion King Jnr'. Rehearsals for 'The Little Mermaid' are currently taking place and looks set to be our best performance yet!
We provide a wide range of peripatetic music lessons through Stockport Music Service and Front Row Music. Many of our children attend band rehearsals on a Monday morning and every child in Y3 has access to recorder lessons taught by the class teacher. We use Charanga as a resource to teach music across the school and lessons are taught in the afternoons. The school have purchased a class set of glockenspiels in order for children to learn how to read notation, compose their own pieces and perform to other children.
Every week we have a singing assembly led by our music leader where a range of songs are learnt to promote messages including anti bullying. We also learn songs from other countries using different languages. Children perform music and songs during their class assemblies throughout the year.
